BlueSpace Product Line

Geospace: Many C2 operators in joint and coalition operations struggle with separate C2 systems in each network compartment. What operators want is one map, with all units from different countries all through the same interface – a Unified Operating Picture of the battle theater. BlueSpace has achieved this by creating a multi‐level secure (MLS) geospatial application, GeoSpace, for MLS C2 and multi‐INT visualization. It utilizes the BlueSpace Trusted Service Bus application and Client Framework, as well as a trusted workstation and Google Earth.

Unity: BlueSpace is the first commercial‐off‐the‐shelf (COTS) mulit‐level mail and messaging client to support a single inbox and user interface for end users. Unity can connect to Microsoft Exchange Servers on different network domains and aggregate email from those domains into a single inbox view at the high side. When a user clicks to open an email, Unity opens it at the appropriate security level through the Outlook OWA interface, so Mandatory Access Controls (MAC) are enforced and the content stays on the original network.

Discover: The BlueSpace Discover application provides the end user a single interface for searching data held at multiple security levels and displays the search results on one screen. In addition, users can share sets of results with those who have access to the system through MLS collaborative folders and an MLS community tag cloud.

The defense and intelligence communities have the unique challenge of their data being distributed across separate security levels and networks, and so require a search system that can span multiple security domains. Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) COTS funded BlueSpace’s S2 (search and share) project to develop an MLS collaborative search application for intelligence analysts the Discover product is a COTS software application that includes components from S2.

Trusted Service Bus: The BlueSpace Trusted Service Bus is an administratively controlled message bus designed for orchestrating application interfaces and services that run at multiple security levels at the same time. As opposed to moving large amounts of content between security messages, leaving content to reside at the appropriate security level. Combined with the BlueSpace Client Framework and Mashup Server, the BlueSpace MLS middleware solution facilitates the rapid development and deployment of MLS ‘mash‐ups.’

Client Framework: The BlueSpace Client Framework is the first commercial‐off‐the‐shelf (COTS) framework specifically designed for creating multi‐level secure (MLS) applications for end users. It supports rapid development of applications that combine data from different classification levels and networks into a ‘mashup’ for the end user, while still preserving the security of separate networks. The Client Framework functions alongside the BlueSpace Trusted Service Bus and Mashup Server to reduce the time and investment required to build, maintain, and support both custom MLS applications and MLS versions of existing COTS software products. The Client Framework includes the BlueSpace Connect application, which resides in the user’s trusted workstation and connects to BlueSpace Application Appliances hosted centrally.

TransMail: BlueSpace TransMail is a mail and messaging platform designed for systems in which high availability, confidentiality, access rights control and auditing are important requirements. It has been employed as a COTS ‘next generation’ record messaging and Aviation Messaging (AMHS) platform. BlueSpace TransMail integrates with Microsoft Active Directory, and is highly intuitive for end users because it ‘feels like’ regular mail. It can be accessed using a web 2.0 client or Unity – an MLS email client.

Built from the ground up as a J2EE, multi‐tiered application, TransMail compiles with Service Orientated Architecture best practices. It can integrate with external systems and processes by leveraging an extensible, XML‐based custom data model, coupled with web services. Content is stored in an industry‐standard relational database such as Oracle.

BlueSpace Success Stories

The U.S. Government funded BlueSpace’s S2 (search and share) project to develop a higher assurance alternative to MDDS – this solution has been made available in the BlueSpace Discover product. Discover enables the user to search cross multiple domains, but opens content objects from search results on the correct (originating) network automatically as opposed transferring the content object to the high‐side. Today, the U.S. Government is actively briefing S2 as part of the Comprehensive National Cybersecurity Initiative (CNCI) program.
